"It was an extremely relaxed and rewarding trip. Great weather helped, but it was the Conovers, their impressive talents, their beautiful wood canoes, their great sense of history and zeal to preserve north woods ways that made this trip special indeed. Equally impressive was their sensitivity to individual needs while gently holding to essential routines. To be guided in such a fashion was a real treat."

NRCM

During 2009 North Woods Ways had the honor of collaborating with the Natural Resources Council of Maine (www.nrcm.org) in celebration of NRCM’s 50th Anniversary of environmental protection and advocacy.  Both Alexandra and Garrett, and the North Woods Ways birch bark canoe were featured in the new half hour documentary film on the NRCM, Protecting the Nature of Maine, and were able to attend the World Premiere screening in Portland on September 16 with many of the other featured guests, film crew members, NRCM personnel, and assembled audience members.

Also in September, North Woods Ways guided a special celebratory five day canoe trip hosted by NRCM in company with Executive Director, Brownie Carson and Senior Legal Counsel, Cathy Johnson.

The following photographs from that trip highlight an early Fall misty morning, Brownie Carson,  Cathy Johnson, and a campfire baked 50th Birthday Cake:
